Selenite from earthegy

What is Selenite?

Selenite is a form of gypsum and the name comes from the ancient Greek word for the moon.  It has a Mohs hardness of 2 and will disintegrate in water and can scratch easily, making it useless for jewelry making.  It is formed from ancient sea salt water that has evaporated.  5000 years ago it was used as a building plaster and it was used by Egyptians in building pyramids.  It is used in crop fields to aerate soil, plaster casts in the medical and dental industry, and as a polishing compound for plate glass windows. It is also used to promote yeast fermentation in beer making. Where ever you see stucco or mortar, there’s probably selenite present.  It is commonly found in the US, Mexico, Russia, Austria, Greece, Germany, Poland, France, and England.

Spiritual Uses for Selenite

Selenite may be physically fragile, but it’s healing properties are powerful. It is a wind element gemstone associated with the Crown chakra and Soul Star chakra above the head. Selenite instills peace and calming and is superb for meditation work and connecting with spirit guides and creating a telepathic link with animals.

Selenite wands are commonly used to align the spinal column and promote flexibility.

Used with other gemstones, selenite will clear out any negative energy and recharge your other stones. (The selenite bowls and charging stations are perfect for this!)

Rubbing a piece of selenite along its striations can help balance and stabilize your spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental body system.

Placed next to your bed or under your pillow, selenite can encourage vivid dreams.

Desert Rose selenite is particularly useful for strengthening positive affirmations.

Placing selenite in each corner of your house will form a protective grid from outside influences and encourage a calm, tranquil environment.

Orange selenite can help a woman recognize her femininity and supports the reproductive system by activating the sacral chakra.

Selenite should never be immersed in water, but it is a stone that thrives with sunshine and light.
