The History of Goldstone…Truth or Fiction?
Goldstone is interesting stuff. It’s common knowledge it’s man-made, but people’s opinions vary on whether or not it contains any metaphysical properties.
My take on it… if you take your basic red goldstone and think about the fact that it has copper in it… then yes, it can carry and conduct energy. Copper is a huge energy conductor, just ask any electrician wiring your house, or check out an old post I wrote about copper here.
What you choose to believe is up to you, if it works for you, keep working with it. Or you can just enjoy it because it’s super sparkly pretty stuff. Either way it has some interesting history and legends around it.
The Legend of Goldstone
Sometime during the early 1800’s, an Italian monk was making glass at his monastery. He accidentally spilled some copper filings into his molten glass and goldstone was born. When copper is added to molten glass, the copper crystallizes. The recipe for making goldstone was kept secret by the monks, but was handed down through time.
A Gemologist’s Opinion
This guy had an interesting write about about it. Red goldstone has copper, blue goldstone has cobalt, green goldstone has chromium, and purple goldstone has manganese in it. And the first goldstone was excavated in Iran and is dated to the 12th to early 13th century. Then it ended up in Italy in the 17th century. Check out his lengthy post about goldstone here.
